On Stack Exchange, we believe the core moderators should come from the community, and be elected by the community itself through popular vote. We hold regular elections to determine who these community moderators will be.

Community moderators are accorded the highest level of privilege on our community, and should themselves be exemplars of positive behavior and leaders within the community.

Our general criteria for moderators is as follows:

  • patient and fair
  • leads by example
  • shows respect for their fellow community members in their actions and words
  • open to some light but firm moderation to keep the community on track and resolve (hopefully) uncommon disputes and exceptions

Full elections have three phases and an optional fourth phase (Primary):

  1. Question Collection
  2. Nomination
  3. Primary
  4. Election

Please participate in the moderator elections by voting, and perhaps even by nominating yourself to be a community moderator!

Rebecca J. Stones

I'd like to nominate myself for moderator.

  • I came second in the last election.

  • I'm a mod at Chinese.SE, and have already interacted with Tsundoku (long-term LanguageLearning.SE mod) for various intersite moderation tasks.

  • I'm actively learning Chinese, and becoming increasingly interested in making study materials for others.

  • The site is fairly quiet, and finding someone who is active enough is an important factor. I believe I'm a relatively active user.

What annoys me about the site is how many specific-language requests we get (it's wasting people's time). I'd like to look at making it easier for new users to realize these questions are off-topic before they post, and direct them to sites where they can actually get answers.

Robert Columbia

I'm a moderator on History Stack Exchange (2 years), where I've learned and practiced listening to the community and taking feedback. I prefer a light presence, keeping the site clear of obvious junk and hostility while deferring to the community whenever reasonable. I'm a long-time participant in Charcoal.

I'm a native English speaker from the US. I speak Spanish at a high level and have traveled independently in rural Puerto Rico. I am currently (since 2017) learning Modern Hebrew (עברית).

Ken Graham

I love the outdoors and learning languages and would like to propose myself as a moderator to this site. Currently, I am a moderator on Christianity SE, Beer, Wine & Alcohol SE, as well as Lifehacks SE and enjoy the community we have there.

I am more than willing to spend more time with this awesome community and hopefully being able to foster a great Language Learning community.

I love reading in both French and Latin. Both languages I learned in highschool (secondary) in English Canada and was aided with a French immersion class at the University of Tours in France 1989. I lived in France for some 13 years and Germany for 3 years as a young child. My father had a UN posting in Europe when I was growing up. I now live in an English speaking area of Canada and reading is how I enjoy other languages.

This election is over.
